ABOUT ME
As a child and a teenager I often remember feeling lost. I believe that most kids going to school feel lost, unsure of where to go, how to step, and what to do. The pressure on students to become productive members of society and to decide what they want to be is crushing. In my junior year of high school I met my history teacher Mr. David Jakahi. He made learning fun and his energy was contagious. He inspired me to be a better student and gave me direction. It was then that I knew that I wanted to become a teacher.
I began my journey teaching children as a YMCA group

leader. In 2013 I entered the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as a skills trainer. As an ABA tutor I implemented various programs and used multiple strategies to teach a wide range of autistic students. I completed my student teaching at Mililani Middle School. After graduating from Chaminade and completing my teaching licensure, I was offered a full time position at Waipahu High School. There I taught 11th grade, expository writing. After moving to California, I received an offer to work at Ace Esperanza charter middle school, where I taught 8th grade ELA. In 2019 I accepted a position teaching Freshman and Junior English at Foothill High School.
In five years, I see myself working as a high school English teacher. I hope to incite passion for literature among my students with works like Kent Haruf’s Plain Song and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. In ten years I envision a career as a professor at a local college or university, teaching creative writing. Along with teaching, I hope to be a published author, inspiring other students to write and become authors themselves. I believe that I will be able to reach my goal with hard work, patience, and persistence. I know that my journey at the elementary level and with special needs students has taught me how to think outside the box. As I did with my previous teaching experiences I will continue to learn with every class I teach. I will continue to build my knowledge to help motivate my students and lead them to succeed.
